Ingredients

  • 1 1 pizza dough, store-bought or homemade

  • 120 ml 1/2 cup pizza sauce

  • 225 g 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 85 g 3 oz pepperoni slices

  • 60 ml 1/4 cup honey

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tbsp cornmeal

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Saucepan
  • Rolling pin

Directions

  • If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven and preheat to 230°C (450°F) for at least 30 minutes. If using a baking sheet, preheat the oven and lightly oil the sheet.
  • While the oven heats, prepare the hot honey by combining honey and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan over low heat. Warm for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let infuse while you prepare the pizza.
  • Dust your work surface with flour and stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 30cm (12-inch) round. If the dough springs back, let it rest for 5 minutes before trying again.
  • Sprinkle cornmeal on your pizza peel or the back of a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  • Transfer your stretched dough to the cornmeal-dusted surface, reshaping if needed.
  • Brush the outer edge of the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 2cm (1-inch) border for the crust.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  • Arrange the pepperoni slices across the pizza, slightly overlapping them.
  • Sprinkle dried oregano over the top.
  • Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately drizzle with the hot honey, focusing on the pepperoni pieces.
  • Let the pizza cool for 2 minutes before slicing to allow the cheese to set slightly.

Notes

  • For an authentic crispy crust, a pizza stone is ideal, but a preheated baking sheet turned upside down also works well as a budget-friendly alternative.
