Ingredients

  • For the Glaze:
  • 240 ml 1 cup hot honey

  • 100 g 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons 2 hot mustard

  • For the Ham:
  • 1.8 kg 4 lb cooked bone-in ham

  • 360 ml 1 1/2 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Equipment

  • Baking dish
  • Saucepan
  • Pastry brush
  • aluminium foil
  • Cutting board et Knife
  • Cups (US measurement)

Directions

  • Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Prepare the Ham: Place the ham in a baking pan, and pour the water into the bottom of the pan. This will help keep the ham moist.
  • Mix the Glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the hot honey, light brown sugar, and mustard. Stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Apply the Glaze: Use a basting brush to apply a generous amount of the glaze over the ham, covering it entirely.
  • Cover and Bake: Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Glaze Again: After the initial baking time, remove the foil and apply another layer of glaze. Return the ham to the oven without foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until the glaze is caramelized and bubbling.
  • Rest and Serve: Allow the ham to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with any remaining glaze.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add the crushed red pepper flakes to the glaze. This will elevate the heat level and create a more complex flavor profile. Adjust the amount to suit your palate.

Can I use a different type of mustard for the glaze?

Yes, you can use any mustard you prefer. However, using hot or Creole mustard adds a unique flavor that complements the sweetness of the honey.
