Ingrédients

  • For the Meatloaf:
  • 500 g 1 lb bœuf haché

  • 500 g 1 lb ground pork

  • 60 g 1 tasse Italian-style breadcrumbs

  • 60 g 1/2 tasse fromage parmesan râpé

  • 1 1 oignon

  • 2 2 gousses d'ail

  • 2 2 œufs

  • 120 ml 1/2 tasse marinara sauce

  • 1 cuillère à soupe 1 cuillère à soupe pâte de tomates

  • 1 cuillère à café 1 cuillère à café persil frais

  • 1 cuillère à café 1 cuillère à café dried oregano

  • 1 cuillère à café 1 cuillère à café dried basil

  • 1 cuillère à café 1 cuillère à café sel

  • 1/2 cuillère à café 1/2 cuillère à café poivre noir

  • 1 cuillère à soupe 1 cuillère à soupe huile d'olive

  • Optional for Topping:
  • 60 g 1/2 tasse fromage mozzarella râpé

  • 2 cuillères à soupe 2 cuillères à soupe fromage parmesan râpé

Equipement

  • Grand bol à mélanger
  • Baking sheet or loaf pan
  • Papier sulfurisé
  • Poêle à frire

Directions

  • Préchauffer le four :
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
  • Prepare the Aromatics:
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes, until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Mix the Meatloaf:
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, cooled onion-garlic mixture, eggs, marinara sauce, tomato paste, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix everything until just combined—avoid over-mixing, as this can make the meatloaf dense.
  • Shape the Meatloaf:
  • Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf. If desired, top the meatloaf with a few spoonfuls of marinara sauce.
  • Bake the Meatloaf:
  • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50–60 minutes. The internal temperature should reach 70°C (160°F).
  • Add Cheese (Optional):
  • For a cheesy twist, sprinkle shredded mozzarella and extra Parmesan on top during the last 10 minutes of baking. Return to the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Se reposer et servir :
  • Once baked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Use a mixture of beef and pork for a richer flavor, but you can also substitute with all ground beef or even ground turkey for a leaner option.

Can I make the Italian meatloaf ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare the meatloaf mixture up to 24 hours in advance. Simply store it in the refrigerator, covered, until you’re ready to bake. You can also freeze the uncooked meatloaf for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to cook, thaw it overnight in the fridge before baking.
