Ingredients

  • 115 g 4 oz ground beef

  • 1 1 cheddar cheese

  • 1 1 brioche bun

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 slices 2 slices bacon

  • 1 1 large egg

  • Butter or oil for frying the egg

  • 1 1 leaf of lettuce (optional)

  • 1 slice 1 slice tomato (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

Equipment

  • Frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Tongs
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Directions

  • Cook the bacon in a frying pan over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess fat.
  • Shape the ground beef into a patty about ¾ inch (2 cm) thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • In a separate frying pan, melt a small amount of butter or heat a splash of oil over medium heat. Crack the egg into the pan, and cook until the whites are set but the yolk is still runny, about 3-4 minutes. For a firmer yolk, cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of the toasted brioche bun (optional). Place the lettuce leaf and tomato slice (if using) on top. Add the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, then top with the crispy bacon slices. Gently place the fried egg on top of the bacon, and cover with the top half of the bun.
  • Serve the burger immediately while hot, with a side of your choice like fries or a simple salad.

What kind of cheese works best for this burger?

Cheddar and American cheese are classic choices because they melt well and pair perfectly with the other ingredients. You can also try Swiss, pepper jack, or blue cheese for a different flavor profile.
