Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons honey granules or honey powder

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon smoked paprika

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons chipotle chili powder

  • 1 teaspoons 1 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 teaspoons 1 teaspoons black pepper

  • 1 teaspoons 1 teaspoons kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoons 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoons 1/2 teaspoons onion powder

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Airtight container

Directions

  • Measure all ingredients and add them to a medium mixing bowl.
  • Whisk the ingredients thoroughly, breaking up any clumps in the brown sugar or honey granules.
  • Continue mixing until all spices are evenly distributed throughout the rub.
  • Transfer the finished rub to an airtight container if not using immediately.
  • Apply generously to your choice of meat, coating all surfaces evenly.
  • For best results, let the seasoned meat rest for at least 30 minutes before cooking, or ideally overnight in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • If you can’t find honey granules in your local grocery store, look in specialty spice shops or online retailers. Alternatively, you can substitute with more brown sugar and brush actual honey onto your meat before applying the rest of the dry ingredients.
