Ingredients

  • 450 g 450 ground bison

  • 2 tablespoons 2 olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon 1 salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon 1 garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon 1 onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon 1 Worcestershire sauce

  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese

  • Buns of your choice

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • Grill or stovetop pan
  • spatula
  • spoon

Directions

  • Prepare the Meat: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground bison with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently by hand until the ingredients are just combined.
  • Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  • Preheat the Grill or Pan: If using a grill, preheat to medium-high heat. If using a stovetop pan, heat over medium-high heat and add a slight drizzle of olive oil to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the Patties: Place the patties on the grill or pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Avoid pressing down on the patties to keep them juicy.
  • Assemble the Burger: Once cooked, let the patties rest for a minute or two. Serve on buns with your choice of toppings such as fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, onion, and cheese.

Notes

  • Rest the Meat: Allowing the cooked patties to rest for a minute helps the juices redistribute, making your burger juicier.

What does bison meat taste like compared to beef?

Bison meat is slightly sweeter and richer in flavor compared to beef. It’s also leaner, which gives it a cleaner taste and makes it a healthier option.
