Ingredients

  • 200 g 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 240 ml 1 cup water

  • 340 g 12 oz bag of fresh or frozen cranberries

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Airtight container

Directions

  • If using fresh cranberries, rinse and drain them. Discard any damaged or shriveled berries.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Add the cranberries to the boiling water and sugar mixture. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally as the cranberries pop and the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Transfer to a serving dish or airtight container. The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

  • For a chunkier sauce, simmer for less time. If you prefer a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to puree the sauce once it cools slightly.

Can I use frozen cranberries for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen cranberries without thawing them first. Simply add them to the saucepan as directed, and the cooking time will remain the same.
