Ingredients

  • 8 8 Fresh figs

  • 2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons Butter

  • 2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar

  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon Honey

  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon Balsamic Vinegar (optional)

  • 4 4 Vanilla Ice Cream

  • Chopped Nuts (optional)

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Spoon
  • Serving bowls

Directions

  • Wash the figs and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Cut each fig in half lengthwise.
  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the brown sugar and stir until it dissolves into the butter, forming a smooth caramel sauce.
  • Place the fig halves, cut side down, into the skillet.
  • Cook the figs for 3-5 minutes, until they start to soften and the cut sides become golden and caramelized.
  • Flip the figs gently and cook for another 2 minutes on the other side.
  • Drizzle honey over the figs and add balsamic vinegar if using. Let it cook for an additional minute to blend the flavors.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and let the figs cool slightly.
  • Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream in each serving bowl.
  • Arrange the warm, caramelized figs around or on top of the ice cream.
  • Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.

Notes

  • For a gourmet twist, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the figs after caramelizing.

Can I use dried figs instead of fresh figs?

While fresh figs are best for this recipe due to their juiciness and soft texture, you can use dried figs in a pinch. If using dried figs, soak them in warm water for about 10 minutes to soften them before caramelizing.
