Ingredients

  • 180 g 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoon 2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 1 large egg

  • 240 ml 1 cup milk

  • 120 ml 1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 100 g 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 50 g 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Equipment

  • Waffle iron
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups (for US)
  • spoons
  • Ladle

Directions

  • Begin by preheating your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg until lightly beaten. Then, add the milk and vegetable oil (or melted butter), whisking until the mixture is smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined—be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, ensuring the cheese is evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or a small amount of butter. Pour about ½ cup (120ml) of batter onto the center of the waffle iron and close the lid. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crispy.
  • Carefully remove the waffle from the iron and serve immediately. Top with extra cheese, chopped chives, sour cream, or bacon bits if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispy waffles, add a bit of extra oil to the batter.

Can I use a different type of cheese in this recipe?
